There is also one Sunday night game per week, a Monday night game each week, some Thursday night games and two traditional Thanksgiving games.
There are four divisions in the National Football Conference and four divisions in the American Football Conference. Each team plays their three division opponents twice per season, once at home and once away. Each team plays four teams in another division in their own conference, two of the games at home and two away. The division is determined by a three year rotating cycle. Four games are played each year against teams in another division of the other conference based on a four year rotating cycle. The other four games are played against teams with the same standings in their own division.
