Th e National Football League (NFL) regular season starts the weekend after Labor Day each year. Prior to 1960, the number of games on each team's schedule varied but never exceeded 12 games. Then, from 1961-1977, the NFL went to a 14 game schedule played over 14 weeks. Currently, since 1978, the NFL schedule consists of 16 games. In 1990, the NFL introduced a bye-week to the schedule spreading the 16 games over a 17-week period.
The Miami Dolphins 16-game schedule will include 8 home games and 8 away games. As the Miami Dolphins play in the AFC Eastern Division, they will play 6 games against divisional opponents; one home and one away game for each team in their division. The other teams in the AFC East include the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and the New York Jets. The Dolphins play their home games in the newly renamed Sun Life Stadium which is located in Miami Gardens, FL.
The official schedule was released on April 20, 2010. We will find out the preseason schedule at a later date. In addition to playing their AFC East rivals twice in the upcoming season, the Dolphins will also face the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, and the Detroit Lions at home. On the road, the Dolphins will face the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers, and the Minnesota Vikings.
The Miami Dolphins are coming off a disappointing season where they finished with a 7-9 record and narrowly missed the playoffs after winning the AFC East Divisional crown a year earlier in 2008. The Dolphins will be led by 3rd year Pro Chad Henne at quarterback and will look to further develop their widely popular Wildcat offense. The team has been focusing on improving their defense this offseason in hopes they will be able to get back on top of the AFC East division and make a run in the playoffs.
