T he New England Patriots will play 16 regular season games in the 2010 National Football League season, eight each at home in Gillette Stadium in foxboro, Massachusetts, and eight on the road. While the opponents of all regular season games were known well in advance, the exact dates of each game, along with their pre-season schedule and television schedule, was announced on April 20, 2010.
Led by quarterback Tom Brady, the Patriots will play each of their AFC East division rivals, the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, twice during the year, once at home and once away. They will also face the four teams AFC North, the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, plus all four teams from the NFC North, the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. The final two games will be against their two American Football Conference rivals who finished the 2009 season atop their respective divisions, the Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers.
In the 2009 season, the Patriots finished the regular season as the AFC East winners with a 10-6 record. They edged the Bills in their opening game, but fell in the next to the Jets and then-rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. New England rebounded to win their next two against the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens, but were upset in week five by the Denver Broncos. Other losses came from the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and eventual Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints. In the NFL Playoffs, the Patriots were upset again, falling to the Baltimore Ravens 33-14 at home after losing top wide receiver Wes Welker to an injury.
