The defe nding Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints will play 16 games in the 2010 NFL regular season, including eight at home in the Louisiana Superdome and eight road games. An announcement on the Saints 2010 NFL schedule, along with the rest of the NFL's schedule, was made on April 20, 2010 - just days ahead of the NFL 2010 draft. Local New Orleans Saints sports reporters began leaking details about the Saints 2010 schedule via Twitter hours before the official announcement about the schedule was made.
On the afternoon of April 20, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the Saints would host the annual NFL kickoff game against the Minnesota Vikings - setting up a rematch of the previous season's NFC championship game. The Saints and Vikings will play on Thursday, September 9, 2010.
The Saints are set to play each of their NFC South opponents twice during the regular season - once at home and once on the road. They include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. In addition, New Orleans will also face four teams in the NFC West: the San Francisco 49ers, the St. Louis Rams, the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals. New Orleans is also expected to face four AFC teams, all from the AFC North. They include the Cleveland Browns, the Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. All total, the Saints have five games in primetime, including Monday Night Football match ups at San Francisco and at Atlanta.
The New Orleans Saints became Super Bowl champions by defeating the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV on February 7, 2010. The Saints beat the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC playoffs and the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game to earn their Super Bowl berth. During the regular 2009 season, the Saints were 13-3, losing their final three games to Dallas, Tampa Bay and Carolina.
