In 2009, the San Francisco 49ers knocked on the door of the NFL playoffs, ending the regular season with an 8-8 record, and, in 2010, they look to break the door down. The 49ers will play 8 home games and 8 away games in their 16-game NFL regular season.
Their home games are all played at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California. Based on their second place finish during the 2009 season, the 49ers will play a second place schedule, as well as games against their NFC West opponents, teams in the AFC West, and teams in the NFC South. Led by young quarterback Alex Smith star running back Frank Gore, and an emerging defense, San Francisco will look to close the gap against their NFC West rivals. As per usual, they will have home and away series against the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams, and Seattle Seahwaks. They also have additional home dates with the Tampa Buccanners, 2009 Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, and, from the AFC, the Oakland Raiders, and Denver Broncos. The Bucs complete their road schedule with visits to the AFC West teams the Kansas City Cheifs, and San Diego Chargers, as well as the Green Bay Packers, and must face travel to the East Coast to play NFC South foes the Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Falcons.
